UNC Charlotte was in the process of launching their new BFA in Graphic Design program, and I was tasked with creating a social media post to fit into the department’s launch campaign on Instagram. The main theme of the campaign was to have those in the program create a self-portrait in their own style, but represent ideas of the program. I chose to use a CMYK color palette to highlight our program’s emphasis on print production. I also used typographic patterns to represent the program’s typography focused courses. The photo is overlaid with illustration to communicate the collaborative element of our program with other mediums. As well as in the top right corner a pattern is created of design thinking concepts that are emphasized in the program. The imagery of the wireframe globe and line art is meant to mimic that of my portfolio website, so that when viewers visited my portfolio there would be a visual connection between the post and the website. All of the elements come together to create a visually interesting composition that speaks to the core ideas of UNC Charlotte’s Graphic Design Program.
